Using this site

CountMySyllables provides free syllable-counting and poetry tools -- word and text syllable counts, a syllable dictionary, and haiku, iambic pentameter, and rhyme scheme checkers -- for educational and informational use. No account or sign-up is required, and there is no charge to use any page on this site.

Estimates, not a single authoritative answer

Syllable counts for words found in this site's pronunciation dictionary (CMU's Sphinx CMUdict) reflect one documented pronunciation, which is not the only correct way some words are said -- see the syllable dictionary page for a list of common words with genuinely disputed counts. Words not in that dictionary fall back to a heuristic estimate, clearly marked as such, with a known real error rate. Meter and rhyme checks compare your text against a strict textbook pattern; deviating from that pattern is a normal and often deliberate part of real poetry, not necessarily an error. Nothing on this site is a substitute for a human editor, teacher, or your own ear for how a line actually sounds read aloud.
